During summer (generally from June to October), the UV rays are strong, so a high SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are essential.
Tip
While swimwear, rash guards, and aqua shoes can be purchased locally, the sizes and prices may not vary much. Preparing these in advance in Korea will allow you to fully enjoy Okinawa’s activities from the start of your schedule.
Transportation
There are direct flights to Naha (OKA) from Incheon, Gimpo, and Busan. The flight duration is approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes to 2 hours and 40 minutes, and early booking is advantageous during weekends and peak seasons. Prices vary greatly depending on the season, so it is recommended to compare them frequently.
After arriving at Naha Airport, it’s common to take the Yui Rail (Okinawa Urban Monorail) or transfer by car to the city center. The Yui Rail runs on the airport–Kokusai Street (Kenchomae/Miebashi/Makishi)–Shuri route, and there are 1-day and 2-day passes available, which can save costs if your itinerary focuses on downtown movements. The 1-day pass is approximately 8,000 won, while the 2-day pass is around 14,000 won, although price variations may occur due to exchange rates.
If traveling with kids or large luggage, using airport pickup services can offer fast and convenient transfers to accommodations.
Note
In Okinawa, driving is on the left. If using a rental car, remember to carry an international driving permit (Geneva Convention type), and familiarize yourself with rotary intersections, right-turn signals, and pedestrian priority rules to ensure safety.
